The New York Pass Discounts: Doing NYC On a BudgetTraveling to New York City! Even though I grew up in New York, I never actually planned a trip there until this past year. My family of four was going to be real NYC tourists and I couldn’t wait. However, I too had those feelings pop up. I know how expensive it can be. And I also know that there is simply too much to do, it can get really expensive. At least until I found the New York Pass and here’s my full review and experience

Just hearing those words brings up mixed feelings instantly:
1. How can I ever afford to take my family there and not go broke
2. How do I know what to see and do in NYC
3. Will I have time to see all there is to see and do in NYC

Gratefully, when you’re with kids you’re instantly focused only on what to do with them, cutting out quite a bit of the adult stuff like staying out too late and walking tours, amongst other things.
That still didn’t soothe my worrying about affording all the attractions I wanted to visit.
So what’s a mama to do? Get online and figure out how to do NYC on a budget!
That’s how I found New York Pass.

1. The Card – The pass is more like a smart card, or credit card, which gives you free entries and discounts all across the five boroughs after you pay an extremely affordable price. You simply give it to the teller and swipe it in their machine.
2. Attractions – It offers over 80 different attractions, but you pay one price and get to explore as many of them as you want. Plus, you get a handy booklet that fits into your pocket and is also as a guidebook with a map of all the five boroughs and the subway system.

3. Fast Pass capabilities – this is very similar to what Disney does. The way it works is if you have the fast pass icon next to the attraction on your list in your booklet, you can cut the line and simply walk right in and your entrance is already paid for as well!
4. Discounts – The more days you buy, the larger the discounts become, until you are literally saving over $550 per person on attractions and even Broadway shows and restaurants.
My Take on It
Brilliant – that’s how to sum it up.
I can’t even imagine going to the City without one of these in hand. It’s like a key to the city! What did people do before this nifty card?
One thing, I was quite sad we weren’t there long enough to fully take advantage of ALL the activities and attractions that New York Pass offers.

IHG One Rewards’ award discount is back, offering select members 15% off award stays of three nights or less. Eligible members must book by April 5 and check in by May 12 to get this discount.
Currently, IHG One Rewards members with a Chase IHG Rewards credit card can enjoy early access to the sale. But on April 3, Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members should also get access to this sale.
On March 30, IHG members with a Chase IHG Rewards credit card got an email about this promotion (mine was titled “Just for you: 15% off Reward Nights”).

When I log in to my account, do an eligible award search and select a hotel, I see a message stating, “As a cardmember, you are eligible for a 15% discount on Reward Nights.”

Eligible IHG cardholders can get a 15% discount on reward nights when booking stays of three consecutive nights or less by April 5. Eligible cardholders must log into their IHG One Rewards account, book award stays at participating hotels and start their stay by May 12 to be eligible for the discount.
IHG is also discounting the cash portion of points and cash awards.

Skeptics may note that IHG uses dynamic pricing and could raise award prices due to this promotion. So, I checked that IHG is applying a discount by searching for the above award at the Hotel Indigo: Atlanta Downtown in Georgia when logged out of my IHG One Rewards account (which is linked to an eligible IHG cobranded card account). Here are the award prices I found when logged out of my account:

As you can see, IHG discounts both the points and the points and cash rate when I’m logged in. You don’t need to register for the promotion or do anything special to get the discount if you’re an eligible member — just log in to your IHG account and search for award nights as you usually would.
Based on my searches, even Six Senses properties you can book with IHG points are discounted during this promotion — like this example at Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives.

Since this promotion is only for award stays of three nights or less, it isn’t stackable with the fourth-night reward offered as a benefit on the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card, IHG® Rewards Traveler Credit Card and IHG® Rewards Premier Business Credit Card.
If you’re eligible for this promotion, check award rates and consider rebooking if you have IHG award stays booked during the stay period.

Bottom line
If you have a stay of three nights or less coming up with IHG and are eligible for this sale, check if this 15% discount changes your calculations on whether you should book a paid stay or redeem IHG points.
If you need to earn more IHG One Rewards points, remember that you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Bilt Rewards points to IHG. But, depending on how you value these currencies, you may be better off buying the IHG points you need.
