Four Seasons is already famous for its over-the-top private jet itineraries that have travelers with deep pockets flying between world-famous landmarks, cosmopolitan cities and adventures in national parks, safari camps and everything in between.

Now, Four Seasons is unveiling its first set of luxury cruise itineraries on the soon-to-launch collection of Four Seasons Yachts, which were initially announced back in 2022.

For its inaugural season (assuming the ship-building process continues without any hiccups), discerning travelers can visit the Caribbean between January and March 2026 on seven-night sailings that include tropical destinations like St. Barts, Nevis, the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curacao and Aruba.

For example, the “Lesser Antilles Featuring Nevis & the Grenadines” cruise, which starts at $19,900 per suite, leaves Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and has full anchored days in destinations like Gustavia, St. Barts, and Charlestown, Nevis, alongside a full beach day and a sailing day before anchoring in Barbados.

In Europe, sailings around the Mediterranean will launch in March 2026, with stops at ports in Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey.

Starting at $28,500 per suite, the nine-night “Grand Mediterranean Featuring Saint-Tropez & Trapani” departs Malaga, Spain, and cruises the Mediterranean Sea before making stops in beautiful spots like La Joliette and St-Tropez in France, two ports in Italy (including Sicily), and Gozo and Valletta in Malta.

Or, if Greece is on the mind, the “Greek Isles featuring Santorini & Mykonos” itinerary, starting at $19,700 per suite, will take travelers from Athens to Greek stops like Santorini, Ios, Milos and Mykonos. It will also include a stop outside of Greece in Didim, Turkey.

For even more space, choose a Funnel or Loft suite. They will include multiple bedrooms, splash pools, outdoor showers and plenty of space to spread out and relax.

This Mexican Town Has The Best Boho Beach Vibes And It’s Not Tulum

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

This Mexican Town Has The Best Boho Beach Vibes And It’s Not Tulum

Mazunte, Mexico is what bohemian beach vacation dreams are made of. It’s what many of us wish Tulum still was – laid back, authentic, off the beaten path, and breathtakingly beautiful. The vibes are immaculate in this small town in the Mexican State of Oaxaca. You won’t hear the thumping bass from the all-night parties like you might in the nearby resort town of Puerto Escondido. You will find a walkable village with cobblestone streets, thatched-roof houses, a variety of delightful cafes and restaurants, and some of Mexico’s most beautiful beaches.

View this post on InstagramA post shared by ๐–๐ž๐ซ๐จ ๐€๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐จ (@elweroamaro)

Mazunte is one of the country’s Pueblo Magicos, or Magic Towns, identified by the Mexican government as having preserved cultural authenticity, history, and natural beauty. As soon as you arrive in Mazunte, you’ll see why it was chosen for this special designation – the town is magical indeed. It’s the perfect place to unplug from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with yourself while soaking up the sun and listening to the massive waves of the Pacific Ocean crash against the golden sand beaches.

In addition to spending plenty of glorious days chilling out on the beautiful beaches, make sure that you take the easy 2.2-mile hike to Punta Cometa to watch an unforgettable sunset. Yogis of all levels will find plenty of great classes around town. Casa Om and Akasha Yoga, Dance, and Martial Arts are two of the best spots. In the evenings, wander the narrow streets where you can choose between various restaurants that will tempt even the pickiest foodies. You’ll find everything from authentic Mexican food to healthy vegan spots and romantic Italian restaurants where you can dine al fresco.

Planning the perfect getaway

The easiest way to get to Mazunte is to fly into Puerto Escondido. Renting a car allows for the most freedom to explore the coastline, but parking in the town of Mazunte can be challenging due to the narrow streets. Rental cars in Puerto Escondido start at around $9 per day. Check ahead of time to see if your hotel offers parking. You can also take the public daily or hire a private taxi from the airport.

Mazunte has some genuinely incredible accommodations, with options to fit every budget. If you’re backpacking and looking for affordable places to stay, there are several hostels in town with dorm rooms starting at just $10. On a budget of around $50 per night, you can find 3-star hotel rooms or private bungalows with amenities like pools, breakfast, and wifi. If you’re ready to splurge, $100-$200 will get you a private bungalow right on the beach where you can watch the ocean from your private balcony.

Raffles and Fairmont CEO on growing hotels with soul in the Americas and beyond

HOSTED BY: 1 AIR TRAVEL

Some of the shiniest luxury tools in Accor’s brand toolbox are overseen by Omer Acar, the CEO of two of Paris-based Accor’s glitziest brands: Raffles Hotels & Resorts and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

Fairmont has longtime brand recognition in the U.S. and Canada, as the luxe hotel chain dates to properties that sprang up along the Canadian Pacific Railway in the late 1800s. In the U.S., the brand launched in 1907 with the opening of the Fairmont San Francisco and has since grown to be Accor’s best-known brand in the Americas.

Raffles, on the other hand, is less of a known entity. Yes, it’s no spring chicken: The first Raffles opened in Singapore in 1887. But save for a short-lived stint in Beverly Hills, California, the ultra-luxury brand only just opened its first North American hotel-condo project in Boston. The rest of the Raffles portfolio is largely in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Expect more from both brands in this part of the world. While their parent company might be based in France, the two brands now call New York City home for their corporate headquarters.

“This really represents the new chapter for both Raffles and Fairmont and, of course, our commitment in the U.S. and especially in North America,” Acar said in an interview with TPG.

Raffles Boston. CAMERON SPERANCE/THE POINTS GUY

The immediate development pipeline for Raffles includes locations in Jaipur, India, a second Singapore location and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

But Acar notes the Raffles team is also looking at future locations in North America, China, Europe and the Middle East. The Raffles and Fairmont CEO told TPG the company is specifically looking in Mexico and Central America, as well as Miami, New York City and the West Coast for North American growth opportunities.

While travelers might look to experience Raffles butler service for themselves closer to home, Acar emphasizes the company isn’t looking to flood any city or country with multiple hotels just for the sake of growth. After all, Raffles’ hometown of Singapore has had to wait 137 years (plus a few more months from now) to see a second Raffles open its doors.

It’s about methodical growth regarding where Raffles will next open — and it all boils down to location, location, location.

“Yes, it’s good to have a hotel in the future in New York. It’s good to have a hotel in Miami, but where in Miami, where in New York will also impact the brand and that’s why we are extremely careful about where and who we partner with,” he added.

On the Fairmont front, the brand has 90 hotels today with an additional 34 in various stages of development. Fairmont has planned openings later this year in Prague and Long Beach, California. Other hotels are in the works for Thailand, South Africa and Czechoslovakia.

A third of the existing Fairmont portfolios is currently under renovation, so travelers familiar with the brand might want to check out their favorite Fairmont hotel to see what’s new. While Raffles in Boston might be Accor’s shiny new toy in New England, Acar noted the Fairmont around the corner is also about to be renovated.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY

The Raffles experience

American and Canadian travelers might be well versed in Fairmont, whether it’s in the city at the historic Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston or more of a resort setting like the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

But Raffles is likely more of a lesser-known entity save for the fact that it’s the hotel to stay at in Singapore … and the birthplace of the Singapore sling cocktail. Like Fairmont, a historic element goes with Raffles … and a laser-sharp focus on detail, service and luxury.

“[Raffles Hotels] are more like a jewel box rather than a tackle box,” Acar said with a laugh.

Expect smaller room counts, butler service, fresh flowers and friendly team members. But there’s also an effort to court more locals to utilize the hotels as well. Long Bar at Raffles Singapore might be the place tourists flock to for the Singapore sling, but power dining is also at the storied hotel with offerings like the North Indian restaurant Tiffin Room or La Dame de Pic, a French restaurant open for lunch and dinner.

In Boston, Raffles strikes a fine balance with Amar, a high-end Portuguese restaurant with views overlooking the city’s Back Bay neighborhood, and Blind Duck, a speak-easy that has turned into the must-have table in town mere weeks after first opening.

“With luxury retail, they sell you the dream,” Acar said. “We deliver the dream.”

Hotels with soul

There are brand parallels between Raffles and Fairmont in that both offer history in many of their properties.

Writers Joseph Conrad and Rudyard Kipling were some of the earliest guests to stay at Raffles Singapore. Raffles London at The OWO, one of the newest hotels in the brand portfolio, is a result of an eight-year restoration of the city’s Old War Office — a building once home to Winston Churchill and that counted James Bond creator Ian Fleming as a regular.

Along with Fairmont’s Canadian railway ties, the Fairmont San Francisco is a survivor of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake that occurred shortly before its planned opening. Fairmont manages The Plaza in New York City, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston has a beaux-arts style that can feel a bit like Versailles meets New England.

“For me, when I enter a Raffles or one of the long-lasting Fairmont properties, you kind of enter there and feel the pressure on your shoulders,” Acar said. “Everything in those hotels has taken place: birth, marriages, bar mitzvahs and celebrations. They’re very important stones of the fabric of that city.”

“You can build a new hotel, but you cannot build that soul,” he later added.

So, stepping back, what’s the right note to strike in terms of luxury and ultra-luxury at Accor while remaining a standout — especially as it looks to gain a foothold in the U.S. against competitors like Marriott, Hyatt and Hilton?

“What should we be doing? Focusing on what we are good at and just get better and better instead of just trying to be innovative [or] just being a part of ever-changing pop culture,” Acar said. “I’d rather be stylish than fashionable because I believe fashion changes, but style remains.”

Fairmont and Raffles won’t come and go like a pair of hot pants or frayed jeans. These two want to have staying power like a Chanel jacket.

What to know about booking an open-jaw flight

HOSTED BY: 1 AIR TRAVEL

If you can’t decide between two destinations for your next vacation, did you know there is a way to possibly visit both while saving time and money? To maximize your travel plans, especially when planning an international trip, it may be beneficial to book an open-jaw flight. This travel tip can help you visit several cities or countries at a potentially lower cost, especially when traveling during the peak summer season.

Here is everything you need to know about booking open-jaw flights to maximize your travel.

Related: What are stopovers and open jaws on award tickets?

What are open-jaw flights?

ALEXANDER SPATARI/GETTY IMAGES

There are a few different types of open-jaw flights. The most common is a destination open-jaw flight, which refers to an airline ticket where the outbound flight lands at one airport while the return flight departs from another. This is different from a round-trip flight because a traveler will not arrive and then leave from the same airport.

Instead, it involves flying to one destination and returning from another. When a city has two (or more) airports, such as Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) and Narita International Airport (NRT), flying into one airport and out of another could technically be called an open jaw. However, it is more common to think of open-jaw flights as involving separate countries or cities.

Open jaws can be useful for travelers who want to visit multiple cities or countries without returning to their original departure point. For example, if you wish to visit Europe this summer, you might want to fly into the United Kingdom to start your vacation there but also plan to visit other European countries.

You could book a flight home from France or Italy instead. As well as avoiding the need to go back to the U.K. just to fly home, this has the added benefit of avoiding the pricey U.K. Air Passenger Duty.

Another type of open-jaw flight is an origin open jaw, where you fly to and from one destination, but your final destination is different from your origin, such as flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and into Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

You could also book a double open jaw, where your first airport is different from your last airport — for example, flying from New York to Germany’s Munich Airport (MUC) and then flying back from Greece’s Athens International Airport (ATH) to Boston.

How do I book an open-jaw flight?

Whether you book directly with the airline that operates the flight, a codeshare partner or a flight comparison tool like Google Flights, it will usually give you the option of booking a one-way or round-trip flight, with a multicity trip as a third option — this is what you should choose to book an open jaw.

UNITED.COM

One of the many things we love about Google Flights is that it allows you to add multiple airport options to each stage of your journey and extra flights beyond just traveling to a region and returning home, opening up all sorts of routing, deals and exploration opportunities.

What are the benefits of booking an open-jaw flight?

Delta One Suite
ERIC ROSEN/THE POINTS GUY

Open-jaw flights allow you to visit multiple destinations on one trip without the need to backtrack. If you are short on time, you can maximize your travel by flying into the first place you wish to visit and out of the last. It might also encourage you to leave your comfort zone to visit other destinations you might not have considered. If you’re planning a trip to Singapore, why not stop in Bali too?

It also opens up more chances of finding the ideal award seat for points and miles redemptions. If you cannot find award availability out of the city you are flying into, try airports in neighboring countries or states. You might find something perfect (and cheaper); plus, it may be worth extra travel time to that destination if it means your journey home will be in a lie-flat seat at a great redemption price.

Does booking an open-jaw flight ticket save me time and money?

Regent Street
ALEXANDER SPATARI/GETTY IMAGES

Booking an open-jaw flight where you fly into one city and out of another eliminates the need to return to your original departure point to fly home. This is great for travelers with limited time who want to efficiently explore multiple destinations without unnecessary transit time or backtracking. It can also save you money if you find a cheaper flight route.

For example, you may choose to fly from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO) on a summer getaway to Italy. If you’re looking to explore the beautiful country and find yourself in the northern region, instead of opting to depart from Rome, you can book your return flight out of Milan. Though it’s not always a guarantee that you will save money, it’s worth researching and pricing out different route options.

Bottom line

Whether you’re looking to save time without having to backtrack on your next vacation or just fancy adding another stop to your itinerary, booking an open-jaw flight — whether with cash, points or miles — can be a great way to save time and money.

7 Secret Caribbean Islands You’ve Never Heard Of

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

7 Secret Caribbean Islands You’ve Never Heard Of

The Caribbean is full of beautiful islands. However, as there are so many of them, not all get the fame they deserve.

On this list, we have compiled the 7 secret Caribbean islands you probably never heard of. But we think you should visit them at least once in your lifetime if you’re an avid traveler. Here they are.

Caye Caulker, Belize

Caye Caulker is another of Central America’s best-kept secrets. It’s set just a short ferry ride from Belize City at the entrance of the world’s second-largest barrier reef. That makes it a prime place for snorkeling and diving.

Another thing Caye Caulker is known for is its laid-back atmosphere. Laze around at the beach, explore the islands’ treasures at your own pace on a bike (there are no cars allowed on Caye Caulker), or hang out at the iconic Split sipping on a chilled drink. To get your heart pumping, you can engage in kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and sailing.

Utila Island, Honduras

Overshadowed by its much bigger neighbor Roatan, Utila is another hidden piece of paradise. However, it’s well-known among divers because it’s a fantastic place to encounter whale sharks. It’s also home to many diving schools where you can get a certification for a budget-friendly price.

On the other hand, non-divers can take a hike through Utila’s scenic trails, explore its mangrove forests, or enjoy some unique views of the landscape from a kayak. Local cuisine is also worth a try.

Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Bequia

Even though Bequia is the second-largest island in the Grenadines, we’re not surprised you’ve never heard of it. It’s only about 7 square miles in size but has plenty to offer to its visitors.

First and foremost, it boasts many stunning beaches, such as Princess Margaret Beach, Lower Bay Beach, and Friendship Bay. It’s also a renowned sailing and yachting destination. Admiralty Bay is where most boats are anchored and some nice restaurants line the shore.

When in Bequia, don’t miss the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary. It provides a rare opportunity to see Hawksbill turtles and learn about sustainable tourism and nature conservation in general.

Cayo Espanto, Belize

Cayo Espanto is a luxurious private island resort set just off the coast of Belize. It’s perfect for a romantic honeymoon full of pampering and indulgence or as a peaceful vacation somewhere away from the crowds with top-notch service.

The villas feature plunge pools and fantastic sea views. Some of them have a private dock and alfresco showers.

After you’re done relaxing in your piece of heaven, you can engage in many deluxe activities, including fine dining, spa treatments, yoga classes, or snorkeling straight from your bungalow.

Petit St. Vincent

Petit St. Vincent is another private island getaway. And with its lush tropical forests and cottages that have no Wi-Fi or television, it’s a perfect choice for those who would like to truly disconnect.

Start your digital detox with a delicious breakfast delivered to your room. Then, you can set off strolling the pristine beaches, have a drink at the beach bar, or go crazy with a paddleboard, sailboat, or kayak.

You can finish your day in the hillside spa with a deeply relaxing massage. Followed by tantalizing your taste buds with freshly caught seafood in the restaurant overlooking the ocean.

negada, British Virgin Islands

View this post on InstagramA post shared by &Beyond Yacht Charters (@andbeyondyachtcharters)

Looking for a truly unspoiled Caribbean experience? Head to Anegada, the northernmost of the British Virgin Islands. Unlike its volcanic sisters, it’s a coral atoll, and it therefore offers a unique landscape to discover.

Relax at its tranquil beaches, spot native and migratory birds in salt ponds, or take some breathtaking views of the neighboring islands from one of its lookout points. For the character of the island, snorkeling and diving are other popular activities here.

Anegada is also often nicknamed the “Lobster Capital of the Caribbean”. The surrounding sea is loaded with lobster and you can savor various lobster dishes at basically any of the local restaurants.

Corn Islands, Nicaragua

If you’re searching for a tropical paradise to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, consider a trip to the Corn Islands. They are set about 50 miles off the coast of Nicaragua and consist of the Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island.

They both boast stunning beaches, crystal-clear bays, great accommodation options, and welcoming locals, who can take your holiday to another level. On top of that, compared to the popular Caribbean destinations, such as the Bahamas or Curacao, the Corn Islands are much more affordable.

Book now: Fly to Puerto Rico from the Pacific Northwest from $311 round-trip

HOSTED BY: 1 AIR TRAVEL

Puerto Rico is an island full of rich culture, vibrant nightlife and delicious food. Throw in the wonderful beaches, the fact that Americans can travel there without a passport and the fact that it’s not far from the mainland, and it’s easy to understand why it’s such a popular destination. Now American Airlines and United Airlines are making it even more enticing with a sale on flights from the Pacific Northwest. This deal is for travel to the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan in the fall from Seattle and Portland, Oregon.

This sale is an unusually specific one, with just two departure cities that we could find. However, some of the prices we saw for round-trip tickets — some as low as $311 — caught our attention.

The travel window is primarily September, but we found a few October bargains, too. We do want to point out that some, but not all, of the lowest prices involved flights with two stops.

Also, these are economy tickets, which means there are restrictions. With American itineraries, you’ll get a free carry-on bag. With United, you’ll have to pay to check a bag, which will cost you $40 each way.

Sample flights

You can book an American Airlines round-trip ticket in mid-September from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Luis Muรฑoz Marรญn International Airport (SJU) in San Juan for only $311. That’s a nice savings from normal prices.

You can get the same route earlier in the month for just a dollar more. We do want to make sure you notice that the return flight in this itinerary involves two stops, in Miami and Dallas.

United has a Seattle-to-San Juan itinerary in late September for the same $312 round-trip price. Don’t forget that with United, you’ll have to pay to check your luggage.

We found a couple of steals for flights out of Portland. You can fly round-trip on United from Portland International Airport (PDX) in September to Puerto Rico for $329. That’s a really good price for this route.

Finally, we found a couple — just a couple — of round-trip tickets from Portland to San Juan on United in early September for just $308. That’s an excellent price, and judging by the fact that availability was drying up as I searched for flights, other bargain shoppers agree.

How to choose an airline credit card

HOSTED BY: 1 AIR TRAVEL

Airline credit cards offer carrier-focused benefits and the ability to earn points and miles with a specific airline.

But the right card for you will depend on several factors, such as your preferred airline, credit score, spending level and the benefits you value the most. With that in mind, here’s what you need to consider when choosing an airline credit card.

How to choose the right airline credit card for me

To find the airline card that best fits your travel lifestyle, we recommend that you start by asking yourself the following questions.

Do you have a preferred airline?

Airline credit cards offer the best earning rates and benefits for specific airlines and sometimes their partners. However, not everyone can stick to one particular airline when booking their flights.

Look at your flights over the past year to see which airline you fly with most often, or narrow it down to your top three. If the airlines vary and you’re more concerned with getting the cheapest fare regardless of the airline, you may want to bypass the airline card and consider a travel credit card with more flexible reward options instead.

However, if you always fly with the same airline because you live in a hub city or are working toward elite status (or you just like the airline), then you will benefit from an airline credit card. You just need to find the right card for that airline.

What’s your credit score?

Airline credit cards fall within the travel credit card category. Travel credit cards require a good to excellent credit score, anywhere from 690 or higher. You may be approved for an airline credit card with a lower score, but know that your options may be more limited.

Do you check bags?

One of the best perks airline credit cards offer is the ability to check one or two bags for free, depending on the airline credit card. This benefit applies to the cardholder flying and sometimes their companions booked under the same reservation.

U.S. carriers charge for checked bags when you fly economy on domestic and select international flights. In fact, several major U.S. airlines recently increased their checked-bag fees. So, having an airline credit card that can save you up to $40 per bag per flight is a major win for frequent flyers who check bags often.

Related: These 26 credit cards can get you free checked bags

How much will you spend on the card?

Understanding your spending habits can help you choose the right airline credit card. All airline credit cards allow you to earn miles for their frequent flyer program. For example, suppose you hold an American Airlines credit card, such as the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees).

You will earn 1 Loyalty Point per dollar spent on all purchases. The more you spend, the more Loyalty Points you earn, helping you achieve elite status with the airline faster.

SRDJANNS74/GETTY IMAGES/ISTOCK PHOTO

Some issuers have several cards for the same airline, such as American Express and its cobranded Delta cards. If you’re not a high spender, you may be better off with the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card, which offers no benefits for high spend but has no annual fee (see rates and fees).

On the other hand, if your spending is high and you want to be rewarded, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card may be the better choice. You’ll earn a boost of 1 Medallion Qualification Dollar for every $10 you spend, which will help you achieve Delta elite status faster.

What are the card benefits?

In addition to miles, you want to consider the other benefits a card offers. If you’re satisfied with basic benefits such as a free checked bag and priority boarding, aim for an airline card with a low annual fee.

However, if you want to earn bonus points toward elite status, statement credits, airport lounge access and complimentary upgrades, then go for the airline credit card with higher annual fees. They tend to offer those additional perks.

Should I use an airline card for everyday spending?

If you’re loyal to an airline, striving for elite status or looking to boost your miles balance with a specific airline, using an airline card for everyday spending makes sense. However, many airline credit cards lack the benefits that are geared to everyday spending.

ALEKSANDARNAKIC/GETTY IMAGES

For example, not all airline credit cards offer purchase protections or extended warranty. So, although you are earning airline miles on your purchases, you may be out of luck if you’ve purchased a big-ticket item, like a television or a laptop, and need to file a claim.

Woman paying by card at a restaurant
ANDRESR/GETTY IMAGES

You also may want to avoid using an airline credit card for everyday spending if the earning rates are low.

For example, the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card earns 2 miles per dollar (worth 1.2 cents per mile, according to TPG valuations) at restaurants, whereas the Chase Sapphire Reserve® earns 3 points per dollar (worth 2.05 cents per point).

In this scenario, putting dining purchases on the Sapphire Reserve would benefit you as you earn more per dollar spent than with the Delta SkyMiles card. Plus, you earn transferable points, which can provide value far beyond Chase’s and TPG’s valuation if you transfer points to partner airlines.

Bottom line

Airline credit cards are your best bet for earning miles with a specific airline, not to mention the additional perks you can enjoy every time you fly. Picking the right airline credit card comes down to your ability to stick to one airline, your travel needs and your spending habits.

It’s always worth the extra time researching which airline and its credit card will benefit you as well as how you can leverage the miles, perks and benefits to enhance your travel experience.

Bali Struggles Collecting New Tax As Only 40% Tourists Paying

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

Bali Struggles Collecting New Tax As Only 40% Tourists Paying

As of February 14, 2024, a levy of Rp150 thousand per person (around US$9.50) has been issued for foreign tourists. Whilst this was enacted in February, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said that only 40 percent of tourists have actually paid the tourist levy.

At the ‘Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno’ in Jakarta on Monday, March 25 Minister Uno announced this news and added that the ministry will boost its information dissemination to recoup the full ley amount.

Through ministries, institutions, airlines and prominent stakeholders in the tourism sector, the Ministry is hoping to spread information to all incoming travelers. They will also share the information with Indonesia’s main tourism markets, namely Australia, Singapore, India, and Malaysia.

While the focus has been on tourists arriving at international gates in Bali, connecting routes and other entry gates have not been covered yet, according to Bali’s Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun.

To boost the collection of the levy, booths at domestic arrival routes, both Jakarta and other destinations, have been proposed to better enforce. The sums accumulated from the levy will be used for the protection of culture and nature as well as for waste management in Bali.

Funds to be used to address the trash beach problem

Photos Of Bali's Beach Buried Under Tons Of Trash Go Viral

This has come to light as over the past several weeks tons of debris and waste have landed on Bali’s popular tourist beaches. They will be using the funds to improve the Reduce, Reuse Recycling Waste Processing Facilities (TPS3Rs) that are already in place.

How to pay

All tourists must pay the levy through the Love Bali system via the lovebali.baliprov.go.id or the Love Bali app before arrival. There are however seven categories of tourists who are exempt from paying the levy:

Foreign tourists holding diplomatic and official visasCrew members of transportation vehiclesHolders of temporary or permanent stay permit cardsHolders of family unification visasStudent visasGolden visas Business visas

Cruise lines scramble to find home port alternatives after Baltimore bridge collapse

HOSTED BY: 1 AIR TRAVEL

Following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, two cruise lines are in search of alternate ports where their ships can dock when their current voyages conclude.

What happened

— Brandon M. Scott (@MayorBMScott) March 26, 2024

In the early hours of March 26, a cargo ship leaving the port of Baltimore hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing a total collapse, Baltimore City Fire Department chief James Wallace said during a press conference Tuesday morning.

Several people are confirmed to have fallen into the water. Two were rescued, and the search continues for others. Mayor Brandon M. Scott has declared a state of emergency in the city.

— Port of Baltimore (@portofbalt) March 26, 2024

Because the debris from the fallen bridge and the search-and-rescue efforts block the path to the docking area, the Port of Baltimore has suspended vessel traffic into and out of the port until further notice. It is not yet known how long it will be closed to cruise ships or how long cleanup and rebuilding are expected to take.

Which ships are affected

Two cruise ships — Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Legend and Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas — currently depart from Baltimore, prompting both cruise lines to search for alternative port options.

Carnival Legend is on a seven-night Bahamas voyage that was set to end in Baltimore on March 31. Vision of the Seas is in the early part of a 12-night sailing, also round trip from Baltimore, that’s due to finish April 4. Additionally, Carnival Pride is scheduled to move from its current home port of Tampa to begin offering round-trip voyages from Baltimore starting April 15.

American Cruise Lines also has two ships — American Glory and American Constitution — in the area, but they remain largely unaffected, as both vessels are scheduled to home port in Washington, D.C., this year. (The line has other voyages that are set to sail from Baltimore later in the year. It plans to monitor conditions there and make adjustments as necessary.)

What the lines are saying about itinerary changes

Vision of the Seas
Vision of the Seas. OLIVER LEREN/ROYAL CARIBBEAN

Although neither cruise line has yet finalized other port arrangements, Royal Caribbean did verify that Vision of the Seas will not be returning to Baltimore following its current voyage or for several of its subsequent cruises.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy and collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and extend our heartfelt prayers to all those impacted,” Royal Caribbean said in an emailed statement. “We are closely monitoring the situation, and our port logistics team is currently working on alternatives for Vision of the Seas’ ongoing and upcoming sailings. Any updates will be communicated to our guests and travel partners once our plans are finalized.”

Carnival responded to a request for itinerary change information by referring TPG to Cruise Lines International Association, which serves as an advocate for the cruise industry as a whole.

In an emailed statement, CLIA provided port statistics but said information on new home ports for individual ships would come at the cruise line level.

“Cruise activity at the port of Baltimore based on 2024 published itineraries includes 12 ships making a total of 115 ship calls during calendar year 2024,” CLIA said. “It is the 29th-largest cruise port in the U.S. with 378,000 passenger movements scheduled through the port. Any adjustments to current cruise activity at the port will be announced as soon as available by the individual cruise lines.”

U.S. Embassy: France Raises Its Security Alert System To The Highest Level

In light of the terror attack that claimed the lives of at least 137 people in Russia Friday, France had to elevate its “Vigipirate” terror status to “Attack Emergency Level,” Prime Minister Gabriel Attal reported on X.

— Gabriel Attal (@GabrielAttal) March 24, 2024

The Vigipirate is a three-tier safety system created in France in 1978. It consists of: “vigilance,” “heightened security/risk of attack,” and “attack emergency” levels.

The country decided to increase its security alert to the highest level possible in order to be able to mobilize monetary sources and quickly diffuse information to protect citizens if a crisis breaks out.

With this alert, France is allowed to display armed troops to patrol public places such as airports, public transport, shopping facilities, educational institutions, and sports, tourist and religious venues.

One of the reasons that triggered the government to raise its security alert is related to safety concerns regarding the Olympic and Paralympic Games that will take place in Paris and other cities this summer.

Everything suggests that the threat is real – According to the national news channel France 24high school students from more than 30 institutions received threatening emails through the Pronote software used by the Ministry of Education.

These emails state that schools in the country’s north will be soon attacked. They also contained “shocking” videos of beheadings, confirmed the minister Thursday.

The “Islamic State in Khorasan,” which is believed to be responsible for the terrorist attack in Russia, has perpetrated other attacks in Germany and France in recent times and is currently threatening France, Prime Minister Attal has stated, according to Reuters.

US Embassy and Consulates in France Recommendations

Concerned about the safety of its nations, the US Embassy has issued a series of recommendations for Americans to be safe in case of emergency when visiting France.

Americans are encouraged to:

Register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive last-minute information about the situation in France and make it easy to locate you in case of need.Refrain from taking part in demonstrations and leave zones with an increased police presence at once.Keep yourself informed about recent news and social media activity.Avoid drawing too much attention to yourself.Keep your family members and friends posted about your whereabouts. In case you notice something suspicious, please contact local authorities at 17 or 112.

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

Mexican National Guard Deployed In Los Cabos To Increase Spring Break Safety

Hundreds of thousands will be descending to Los Cabos for Spring Break, thanks to its proximity to America, especially the West Coast. According to recent reports, leading the wave is more than 50,000 college students from the United States who intend to visit the area this Spring Break season.

In a study by Allianz Partners, Los Cabos was second on the list of international destinations preferred by American tourists for spring break in 2024.

Due to the influx of tourists visiting Los Cabos, the general secretary of the government of Baja California Sur, Saรบl Gonzรกlez Nรบรฑez has advised that there will be reinforced security deployed in the region. To help protect tourists and locals, 140 elements of the National Guard have arrived during this busy tourist period.

This news comes after United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, visited Baja California and recommended that students should be wary when visiting the area. They should avoid areas where they may be at risk and keep their eyes open and be vigilant at all times.

Los Cabos area is the municipality with the highest record of drug dealing according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System and crimes tend to also increase during this holiday period.

Los Cabos Police Intensifies Security Measures To Increase Tourist Safety In 2024

Despite the recent Spring Break travel advisory which emphasizes that violent crime is a risk across Mexico, travelers are still flocking to the warm sun down south for vacation.

Crimes are monitored in three categories: green for low occurrence, yellow for caution and red for high crime levels and in January there were six indicators for category red crimes.

To stay safe in Los Cabos, engage in local culture respectfully and stick to well-traveled areas, especially at night. Stay clear of unauthorized tourist transfer services, tours and the like and stay informed about local safety updates.

Is Havana, Cuba Safe To Visit? Travel Advisory 2024

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

Is Havana, Cuba Safe To Visit? Travel Advisory 2024

Havana is a city that has no comparison anywhere in the world. Filled with colorful colonial Spanish architecture, Caribbean music, classic cars and warm locals who treat you like family, this city invites you to have a unique vacation experience.

Traveling to Havana is relatively safe if common-sense precautions are taken. Petty crimes such as theft or carjacking happen even in tourist areas. So, it’s recommended to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Alert – International travelers who have set foot in Cuba since January 2021 are no longer eligible for a U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP). If planning to visit or transit the U.S. territory, you’ll have to apply for a visa at any of your home country’s U.S. Embassies.

Cities across Cuba are experiencing massive food, medicine, power and fuel shortages. Let’s explore some important considerations to keep in mind if you still decide to visit Havana.

LATEST NEWS from Havana:

March 22 – Starving Cubans Demand Authorities to Provide Food and Electricity

Tired of going through hardships, demonstrators in Santiago de Cuba and nearby towns are calling on the national government to give them food, fuel and electricity.

Back in 2021, thousands of residents took to the streets to protest about food and electricity shortages and rising inflation. Needless to say, the situation has worsened since then.

In recent weeks, fuel and public transportation costs have spiked and blackouts have been out of control. All sports competitions had to be suspended because there’s no fuel to power cars.

Bread, which was already insufficient, is now only given to children and pregnant women.

Taking zero responsibility, Cuba’s president has publicly blamed the U.S. government and the “enemies of the revolution” for attempting to cause national instability.

In an effort to reduce demonstrations, the government has given away some extra rations of rice, milk and sugar.

Permanent solutions are yet to be announced.

Crime Statistics in Havana, Cuba

Although 88% of Cubans live in extreme poverty, the country’s crime level ranks at 31.60 which is considered low.

Curious about how Cubans “really live,” some travelers venture to El Padrรณn, Cotorro, El Cerro, Diez de Octubre and Los Sitios. These zones are plagued by illegal businesses and appalling homes.

Needless to say, you must exercise increased caution when visiting such territories. Better yet, stick to tourist neighborhoods like Miramar, Vedado and Siboney.

Current power blackouts are increasing the chances of being pickpocketed.

Travel Advisories

U.S. Travel Advisory

Cuba ranks under travel alert level 2. This means visitors should “exercise increased caution” when in town.

According to the U.S. State Department, travelers can fall victim to petty and violent crime, armed attacks and homicide. Authorities may not be able to assist you if venturing outside Havana.

American travelers to Cuba must apply for a travel license. When doing so, choose a category named “support for the Cuban people,” since there’s not one for regular tourism.

Canada Travel Advisory

Canada urges nationals to “exercise a high degree of caution” when visiting the island due to a lack of food, medicine and gas.

According to this government, moving across the island has become extremely difficult because of the current lack of public transport.

Renting a car is no longer a smart idea because there’s a fuel shortage. Water has also been rationed, even in Havana hotels.

Also, a shortage of food and medications has started to negatively impact tourists.

Safety Tips for Havana, Cuba

Havana is not seeing its best days. If you still decide to take your chances, here are some tips to make your trip smoother.

Ensure you don’t need a visa or have acquired one before booking your tickets. Now more than ever, bring your own medicines. This must be insane but also bring your own toilet paper.Don’t drink tap water.Confirm prices before consuming any products.Don’t hand in your credit cards to bar or restaurant workers.Only use reputable transportation companies.Petty crime is common in tourist areas and at the airport. Be aware of your surroundings.Always pack your valuables in a carry-on luggage.Watch out for hurricane season which runs from June to November. Make sure to fill out this online declaration formRefrain from carrying large amounts of money.Travelers are required to purchase medical insurance to enter the country.Although foreign currencies are widely accepted,. it’s better to carry some local cash. Some streets have two different names. Make sure you know exactly where you’re heading.Opt for private instead of state-run businesses. By doing so, you’ll be helping the local population.Don’t buy cigars on the streets, they are mostly fake.

7 Most Underrated Places In The Caribbean To Visit In Spring 2024

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

7 Most Underrated Places In The Caribbean To Visit In Spring 2024

We all know that the Caribbean is a stunner. There are so many islands to visit and so much to do. But for that reason, many beautiful places are often overlooked.

At the same time, visiting a lesser-known destination is a fantastic way to get out of your tourist bubble and get to know local cultures. That’s why we compiled a list of the 7 most underrated places in the Caribbean to visit in 2024, so you could have the most authentic vacation this year possible.

Secret Bay, Dominica

If you’re looking for the ultimate escape and relaxation, there is no better option than the Secret Bay in Dominica.

This exclusive resort consists of rainforest villas and bungalows, each of which boasts its plunge pool and views of the Caribbean Sea. Apart from that, guests can enjoy a world-renowned, farm-to-table restaurant and wellness – including spa treatments, yoga sessions, and meditation classes.

Wanna enjoy a bit of nature? The resort has direct access to two secluded beaches. No crowds are guaranteed. Or you can take a guided tour of Dominica’s rainforest, hot springs, or marine reserve.

Maracas Beach, Trinidad and Tobago

Looking for a beach escape in a tranquil setting with idyllic views? Maracas Beach is popular among both locals and travelers alike and is a spectacular place to spend a chilled afternoon with family or friends swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. If the conditions allow, you can also surf.

Another thing this beach is famous for is “bake and shark” – a local dish that consists of shark meat and fried flatbread. You can get it from vendors or the huts along the coast. If you’ve never tried shark before, Maracas Beach will provide you with the best opportunity.

Pinel Island, Saint Martin

Pinel Island is a little oasis just off the coast of Saint Martin. It’s easily accessible by a shuttle boat from Cul-de-Sac. If you’re adventurous enough, you can get there on a paddle or a kayak.

It often gets overshadowed for its size. But even though it’s tiny, this paradise is fun for the entire family.

Its shallow waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There is an underwater trail that will uncover the best spots to meet various marine creatures. Pinel Island also offers several hiking trails and bars and restaurants to chill and refuel.

ltos de Chavรณn, Dominican Republic

If arts and architecture are your thing, you will fall in love with Altos de Chavรณn. This cute town is a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village and is a cultural center for both residents and tourists.

Many artists reside there, from photographers to fashion designers. It’s also home to the renowned Altos de Chavรณn School of Design.

When walking around the cobblestone streets, you will come across plenty of art galleries, craft shops, and artisan workshops. Altos de Chavรณn also boasts stunning views of the Chavรณn River and its surroundings.

Dean’s Blue Hole, Bahamas

Dean’s Blue Hole is another distinctive stretch of shoreline. It’s set in a bay west of Clarence Town in the Bahamas. It dips an impressive 663 feet, which makes it one of the deepest blue holes in the world.

It’s surrounded by a natural rock amphitheater which provides fantastic views of the hole and there is a beautiful white sand beach right next to it. If you dare, bring a snorkel and swim across. But note that it would be at your own risk, as there are no lifeguards.

What’s more, it hosts the Vertical Blue Free Diving Competition every year, a spectacle avid divers shouldn’t miss.

Frenchman’s Cove, Jamaica

Frenchman’s Cove is another hidden treasure of the Caribbean. This picturesque beach has soft white sand, crystal clear water, and is shaded by a canopy of tropical trees. It’s ideal for swimming or just lazing around with a few drinks.

Frenchman’s Cove is a private beach, it’s a part of the Frenchman’s Cove Resort. You will need to pay 2000 Jamaican dollars to enter it but you can be sure the beach won’t be crowded. Bring cash, as they don’t take cards.

Mar Chiquita, Puerto Rico

Are you chasing after unique beaches to visit this year? Put Mar Chiquita on your travel bucket list. This oval-shaped cove creates a natural pool filled in with turquoise water that is well-protected from the lively waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

There is plenty of space to park and during weekends, you can even try the traditional Puerto Rican fritters from food trucks. However, be cautious when swimming. Even though the waters of Mar Chiquita are usually rather calm, there is a risk of serious undertows due to the tide.

These Are The Top 5 Day Trips From Los Cabos To Take In Spring 2024

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

These Are The Top 5 Day Trips From Los Cabos To Take In Spring 2024

There is so much to do and see within Los Cabos, from a wealth of wellness experiences, gastronomic riches, outdoor adventure and more. And while some travelers flock to the region and prefer to park their behinds on the beach and stay around the hotel, there is much to do around the area.

Here are some of the best day trips from Los Cabos where you can explore the surrounding villages and experience some charming towns.

Todos Santos

Initially founded as a mission in the 18th century, the city became a sugar-cane producer and now is a cultural oasis. Todos Santos is about an hour’s drive north of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific coast side of the Baja California Peninsula.

A haven for artists, surfers and travelers seeking adventure and natural beauty, the town has seen a boom of upscale restaurants and boutique hotels, alongside resorted colonial buildings. In 2006, the town became a part of Mexico’s Magical Towns Programme (Programa Pueblos Mรกgicos), which promotes rural towns that offer certain characteristics and traditions that make them unique.

Balandra Beach

Home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, this hidden gem is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Cabo San Lucas. The protected beach is only open to the public during two daily time slots and presents pristine, calm waters and a stunning backdrop.

Surrounded by mangrove lagoons around the bay and several hills, hike up the cliffs for the famous mushroom rock, or Hongo de Balandra (in Spanish), for a breathtaking panoramic view from above. Home to a diverse ecosystem of wildlife, rent a kayak and explore the mangroves and beyond.

Los Barriles

Popular for its wind sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing, it is also known for its flyfishing and is an adventurer’s paradise. The small town boasts some delicious and bold traditional Mexican cuisine in its small cafes and taqueria running along the main street.

The lands outside the town make it ideal for land-based activities from horseback riding and off-roading with ATVs and the area is also home to a few top spas, resorts and golf. The area is home of the Brown pelican and visitors can also see whale sharks and an abundance of flora and fauna.

Cabo Pulmo

Home to the oldest coral reef on the west coast of North America, the area was declared a Protected Natural area in 1995. Home to the 27-square-mile Cabo Pulmo Marine National Park, it is home to 11 different species of coral and over 800 species of marine life.

Approximately two hours away from San Jose del Cabo, the region is ideal for those who seek a quieter, more natural and eco-friendly side of Los Cabos. Popular for snorkeling and scuba diving, the area also offers sustainable sea kayaking and low-impact diving tours. Spend your day kayaking out to the sea lion colony or get an up-close look at the amazing underwater ecosystem which is home to sharks, exotic fish, manta rays and five of the world’s seven endangered species of sea turtles.

Santiago

About 35 miles from San Josรฉ del Cabo, the small town is a nature lovers’ paradise. Home to waterfalls, hot springs and hiking, the area is full of colorful agriculture farms and fruit orchards.

Dotted with green palm trees some of the best experiences to do while in Santiago include visiting the Sol de Mayo Waterfall, taking a dip in the Santa Rita Hot Springs and visiting the Rancho Ecolรณgico El Refugio, a ranch offering access to hiking trails, rivers and swimming holes.
