COVID MEXICO UPDATE: Traveling to the Cancun Area During a COVID-19 Spike

TODAY'S ADVENTURE

COVID MEXICO UPDATE: Traveling to the Cancun Area During a COVID-19 Spike>

Cancun is a small “piece of Heaven” in Mexico, a sandy “seven” that is frozen in its splendor in the waters of the Caribbean Sea. Here tourists are waiting for snow-white beaches, clear water with a turquoise tint, emerald palm trees. Cancun entertainment is not limited to this – shopping, spa centers, sea fish fishing, fascinating diving, surfing with kiting, immersion in the charm of the jungle, acquaintance with the Mayan civilization, the opportunity to splash together with proud turtles in the amazing Shel-Ha Park…

Why do many people choose Cancun to spend their holidays this year? Everything is simple. Experienced travelers know that the visa processing process can take a long time and lead to certain financial costs. But to get a gorgeous bronze tan under the sun of Mexican Cancun, you do not need to put in a lot of effort. Mexico is a country to which tourists from most countries can go without additional paperwork. It is enough to issue an entry permit on the website of the National Institute of Migration.

But with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in our life, many adventurers faced serious problems related to the closure of borders, numerous lockdowns, and epidemiological restrictions.

How are things in Mexico today? With Natvisa you will be able to figure it out:

Latest Guidelines Laid Down By Mexico Government.

Mexico, despite not the most favorable epidemiological situation, did not introduce a global lockdown and prohibit the entry of tourists from other countries. This would cause serious harm to the national tourism industry.

The Mexican government uses the so-called traffic light system – these are uniform criteria for COVID-19 risk zones, which are updated weekly for each state.

By the established color, the resumption of social, educational, and economic activities is determined, which is allowed to open or must remain closed in each state. While bars and clubs may be open in one state, this activity may be completely banned in another. And these restrictions apply not only to Mexican citizens but also to tourists.

What are the restrictions?

The traffic light system mentioned above includes four colors – red, yellow, orange, and green. Each week the regions belong to a certain color. They are determined by the trend in the number of new cases of infection, trends in hospital employment, current indicators of hospital employees, and the percentage of positive cases.

Let’s take a closer look at what regional restrictions each of the colors implies:

Green.

In the “green” regions, all types of activities are allowed without restrictions. Restaurants, beaches, recreation areas, shopping centers are open. Fourteen Mexican states are currently in “green” status.

Yellow.

Under the “yellow” color, some public places are open, but they work with limited capacity, observing precautionary measures. Fifteen states, including Mexico City, are considered “yellow”. Hotels and restaurants can operate at 75% load, and museums and theaters can operate at 50%.

Orange.

This color imposes a lot of restrictions. Under the “orange” secondary companies are allowed to work with 30% of their staff. Open public spaces will operate with limited capacity, while closed ones will be completely closed. Hotels and restaurants can operate at 50%, and theaters and shopping centers – at 25%. It is planned to close major events, as well as nightclubs and bars.

Three states are highlighted in the “orange” designation. This includes Quintana Roo, which may soon become “red”. The Cancun City Council has already closed several busy streets from 23:00 to 01:00 to avoid getting into the “red”.

Red.

Currently, none of the 32 states of Mexico is in the “red” status. This is the strictest color of the traffic light, under “red” hotels can work with a load of 25%, but it is not allowed to gather in public areas. Only room service is allowed.

What to expect upon arrival?

In conclusion, let’s try to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about visiting Mexico:

Do I need to take a PCR test for avid upon arrival or departure from Mexico?

No, you don’t have to. If you arrive in Mexico and you do not have a negative test on your hands, then there will be no problems at the airport. No one will force you to take the test on arrival or at a hotel, there is no mandatory two-week quarantine in Mexico. They will check your temperature and ask you to put on a mask, but these measures are now familiar to many and will not cause problems.

The covid test on departure will be needed only for those who fly through a country in which this condition is mandatory. For example, when flying to Turkey from Cancun, you need to do a test. But if you are flying in transit, then such a restriction does not apply to you.

Is a coronavirus vaccination document required upon arrival in Mexico?

No, a certificate of vaccination when visiting Mexico is not yet a mandatory document. But we recommend that you consult with your doctor before traveling to Mexico about the need for vaccination. If you think that the risk of getting infected while traveling or in the country itself is high enough, then it is better to get vaccinated in advance, taking into account the duration of the revaccination period.

Is there any quarantine on arrival in Cancun?

This question can again be answered in the negative. No additional obstacles are placed for tourists after arrival. You do not have to serve two weeks in quarantine and, in principle, there will be no special personal control over you during the trip. This rule applies when visiting major tourist regions of Mexico. For example, Quintana Roo, a Mexican state on the Caribbean coast, is primarily the famous resort of Cancun and Tulum.

What should I do if I was diagnosed with coronavirus while on vacation?

If you feel the first alarming symptoms, you need to immediately isolate yourself in a hotel room and inform the service staff about your well-being. You need to contact your insurance company, where you bought health insurance, and ask for help in finding the nearest testing point or invite a doctor if the health situation has deteriorated dramatically.

What absolutely should not be done is to panic. Medicine in Cancun is well developed enough to help people with the disease. Special attention is paid to tourists, so in case of timely treatment, everything will definitely end well. Yes, you will have to make adjustments to the rest, but it can be repeated next time, and the main thing is health!
