From Ibiza to the Seychelles: 11 Six Senses properties you can book with IHG points

HOSTED BY: 1 AIR TRAVEL

Editor’s note: This post has been updated with additional information.

In early 2019, InterContinental Hotels Group acquired Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. On March 31, 2021, the following six hotels joined IHG Rewards as part of a phased integration of selected Six Senses properties:

Six Senses Yao Noi, Thailand.Six Senses Laamu, Maldives.Six Senses Botanique, Brazil.Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, Vietnam.Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia.Six Senses Fiji.

IHG still hasn’t integrated every Six Senses property into the IHG One Rewards program. And even as new Six Senses properties open, only some participate in IHG One Rewards. For example, Six Senses Rome, Six Senses Crans-Montana and Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, will open later this year, but an IHG spokesperson told TPG that it is not yet confirmed whether they will be bookable with IHG points.

In addition to the six properties listed above, IHG One Rewards members can earn and redeem points and get elite benefits at the following Six Senses properties:

Six Senses Zil Pasyon, Seychelles.Six Senses Kaplankaya, Turkey.Six Senses Ibiza, Spain.Six Senses Shaharut, Israel.Six Senses Residences Courchevel, France (bookable now for the next season).Six Senses Kanuhura, Maldives (once it opens later this year).

Of course, you’re likely wondering what redemption rates look like at these Six Senses properties. Let’s take a look at several redemption examples and the benefits IHG One Rewards members can get when staying at select Six Senses properties.

Redeeming IHG points for Six Senses stays

You can redeem IHG points for stays at select Six Senses properties. Like other IHG One Rewards properties, award nights at these Six Senses hotels utilize dynamic pricing. So, the number of points required changes as cash rates do.

Some Six Senses properties have minimum stay requirements that vary based on your stay dates. But, members with the IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card, IHG Rewards Traveler Credit Card or IHG Rewards Premier Business Credit Card can get a fourth night reward at Six Senses properties when redeeming IHG points for stays of four nights or longer.

You can search for cash stays and award stays at the above Six Senses resorts through IHG One Rewards or Six Senses. Here’s what I found when searching each of the 11 properties currently accepting bookings for stays on July 22-24 and Dec. 10-12 (or similar dates for properties with more than a two-night minimum stay). I list the lowest cash rate currently bookable in the following sections, even if the rate isn’t flexible.

IHG perks at Six Senses properties

Six Senses properties are often relatively small. And many offer nontraditional service delivery methods. As such, some IHG One Rewards benefits may differ or not be available at select Six Senses properties. For example, the welcome amenity for IHG One Rewards elite members at Six Senses properties is an in-room wellness platter.

Additionally, InterContinental Ambassador, Royal Ambassador and Kimpton Inner Circle members get extra benefits when staying at Six Senses properties. In particular, these members can expect:

Daily complimentary breakfast for two in the main restaurant (not applicable at Six Senses Residences).Signature amenity of a complimentary 50-minute Six Senses Spa massage for two or a local experience once per stay (varies by resort; subject to availability and confirmed on arrival).Complimentary one-category room upgrade (subject to availability; excludes residences and two-bedroom or greater suites and villas).Extended checkout of 4 p.m. (subject to availability for Ambassador members and for all members at Six Senses Residences).10 a.m. early check-in (subject to availability for Ambassador members and for all members at Six Senses Residences).Complimentary internet access.Wellness platter welcome amenity on day of arrival (subject to availability at Six Senses Residences).

Finally, IHG confirmed that all of the above benefits are available regardless of whether you book a paid stay through eligible methods or redeem IHG points.

Bottom line

IHG One Rewards has been working to improve the luxury end of its portfolio. After all, you can now book more than 300 Mr & Mrs Smith properties through IHG One Rewards. And IHG is rapidly expanding its Voco footprint.

It’s great that IHG One Rewards is slowly adding more Six Senses properties to its program. But there are still many Six Senses properties that don’t participate in IHG One Rewards.

For the sample Six Senses stays I searched, I found redemption rates that ranged from an excellent 1.29 cents per point to a relatively poor 0.34 cents per point. So, check your redemption rate before deciding to book with IHG points instead of cash. But, especially if you’re able to buy IHG points for 0.5 cents each during a sale and then get a fourth night reward when redeeming, you may be able to snag a good deal when redeeming IHG points for Six Senses stays.
